THIRD GEN COFFEE

This coffee shop should have been a B, hands down, but as with any C or higher rating, we still recommend this place. Sadly, a few things brought it down to a C.

The GOOD – It has a nice relaxing feel, good for a 3rd space or co-working, the music is nice background noise but not too loud that I feel like I’m at a club. It’s clean and comfortable. The coffee was coffee, and the pastries were the usual Costco type fare, typical of many coffee shops, but they were fresh and tasty. They were greeting people when they came into the shop, that’s good way to make customers feel welcomed and not ignored.

The BAD – Accessibility issues. The entrance is not wheelchair accessible, the ramp up ends at the door instead of a level platform someone in a wheelchair would need in order to open the door themselves, the door is fairly heavy for a wheelchair user, it’s definitely a heavier door pull than what the ADA allows. The upstairs seating is accessed only by stairs, again a person with mobility issues will be confined to hoping to find a spot downstairs in the limited seating. We think a great shop should accommodate all customers, even those with mobility issues. As with any place with accessibility issues, we can’t give it a grade higher than a C.

Additionally, the customer service was mixed. Upon ordering, the barista was nice but not very helpful. I asked for my order to be for here. When I receive my pastry, it came in a paper bag and my coffee came in a disposable paper cup. Considered I asked for it to be here I can only draw one of two conclusions: 1, The staff was just too lazy and didn’t want the extra dishes, or 2, The staff was giving me a subtle hint that I should get my oder to go, and not enjoy it here.

When they called out what I had ordered and it was in a paper bag, I stated that it was for here and the staff member said, “oh, you can get yourself a plastic fork”. I stated that I’d like it on a plate and she seemed a bit annoyed and gave me a plate but made me re-plate it myself. She just stood there doing nothing so I re-plated it myself. When done, instead of offering to throw out the paper bag, she said I can throw it away in the trash “over there if you like”. I’m sure this was not intentional, but it definitely gave me impression they were not wanting me to stay.
